Smile SE 336 Performance Questions

All,

I have been a lurker on this forum for a bit now and had a question regarding the performance numbers of the 336. Of course I have been to rising up, but I was searching for more detail regarding SE numbers for the 336.

Using google I came up with the following
http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/...w/7de56e32.jpg
And if I squint my eyes just right I think I see

FE +355 FPM
RE +424 FPM

I assume that is for SL std day. Does the POH of the 336 have a section for hotter than std and various MSL SE climb rates? I was hoping that someone could post perhaps some portion of the 336 POH perf section to this forum? If not does someone have a 336 POH for sale?

Regards,

ISO

336 Articles for info

I don't have a lot on the 336 but there were some pretty good reviews in Flying magazine back when Cessna introduced the first Skymaster. These past issues of Flying are available on Google Books

http://books.google.com/books?id=8BV..._issues_anchor

This is the very first review that Flying did and it does give some good detail of performance.

The 336 is quite a different airplane than the 337. Cessna made many changes to the 337 based on that first few years of testing the 336. I have a history paper that was posted for the 50th Anniversary of the Skymaster last year that I will post here again. Gives all the ups and downs of the development at Cessna.

Thank You

That was helpful, many thanks, you said in your post...

"The 336 is quite a different airplane than the 337. Cessna made many changes to the 337 based on that first few years of testing the 336"

If you have a document describing the differences I'd love to see it. Is there something structurally wrong with the 336? Based on reading some of the posts here, not sure if this is correct, but it sounds as if the sight picture in cruise is higher than the 337. According to the information I've seen, the 336 has the ability to get in and out of my home field at std day gross with room to spare, while carrying the desired payload and possessing the desired range with twin engine safety.

Looks like 37 total accidents/incidents for the 336, 12 of them fatal. I think there were 195 336's produced. Also there doesn't appear to be any of them for sale currently.

Here's some good reading for you. I forgot I was going to attach this earlier.

Given the circumstances in the light twin aircraft sales, a 337 is lower than I have seen them in many years. Just be careful you understand the complexity of owning a Cessna Twin Engine airplane. It is not a 182, it requires more attention to everything. Granted a 336 might be simpler but Cessna only built them one year for a reason. Be very cautious of "REALLY CHEAP" priced Skymasters. There may be many skeletons in the closet of some low cost Skymasters out there. You will be much better off buying something that has been used frequently rather than something that hasn't been flown for years (they are out there). It sounds like you are operating from a short field so a STOL kit would be valuable. However you proceed make sure you have a thorough pre-buy inspection by a qualified Skymaster mechanic.

This thread will provide much more info about owning and buying a Skymaster

Herb,

Thank you for the data on the 336. Your .pdf contains what I was looking for. Certainly fits my mission profile. Is 21 gals/hr about right? What do you figure for engine reserve? I see you own the 337C, this link shows a TBO of 1500.

never mind the previous questions... I used the search function...

Do most 336/337's make it to TBO?

Thank You Again

Maintained and flown right will lend at least 2000 hours. My rear engine was at 2350 when I swapped it.

I usually flight plan for 155 kts and 20 gals per hour
