Gyro Overhaul

I am going to have my AI and the DG overhauled during annual this month. Anyone have any good references to shops they have used?

Herb,

I haven't used them myself but Aircraft Quality Instruments are highly recommended on a couple of the larger GA forums. http://flyaqi.com/

Skymaster337B is an unknown quantity at this point
Consider going glass with Garmin's new G5 attitude indicator. Might be same price as an overhaul on the round gauges.

He might need one or both of those gyros to drive the autopilot....

And depending on the autopilot, the G5 may be able to interface with it. Stec and Garmin autopilots will work. Of course, if it’s a Cessna autopilot like mine, he’d be out of luck.

The DG in my old Skymaster needed an O/H and it wasn't that much more $$$ to put in an Aspen pro so that's what we did. Their EA100 adaptor emulated the DG ie it let the Aspen AHRS talk to the Cessna autopilot. Landmark Aviation avionics did a good job.

The DG in my 1968 drives the autopilot and that will be a problem with the new stuff out there. The Aspen would work but the highest price I have gotten to O/H is about $1500.00 If I could put an Aspen in for that it would be there. $1500 won't buy you the schedule at the radio shop. Last I checked the Aspen pushes $20k installed

Herb:

I guessing that your autopilot DG is a 52D54(?). The high overhaul price is for the electrical part of the DG. The vacuum driven mechanism should be around $350. If the heading pre-select and course bug are right on there is not much for them to do with that part of the DG.

The DG is an A.I.M. model 200-3 There is no bug on the DG, the heading bug is built into the auto pilot, Cessna straight 400

I think the Cessna model number is G520 or (G502A)

I've heard of Century. their price list on their website lists the G502A DG

Have you used any of these repair stations?

I have not, both come recommended on BeechTalk and Cessna Pilots Society.

I'm also taking notes as I'd like to send my DG out for iran.
