That is going to have to be a decision you need to make. It is all spelled out quite clearly, Both engines and props (I am guessing have never been off) beyond TBO, that is the first Big item. The math takes care of itself at this point. Radios come next.

I think the average factory rebuilt IO-360 runs about $35K, but that doesn't include your shop's work involved with removing it and putting it back on. The avionics depends on what you want out of it, but it can easily run the same as two engines. I also look at the downtime involved with these two basic considerations; engines and avionics could take up to a year.
I sure would have a 337 experienced shop complete a prebuy on it. Many little items can cause a lot of downtime and expense as many parts are tough to find. The TBO'd engines can affect the ability to find financing and insurance as well. I bought a well maintained 337, the shop I use now maintained it for the last owner. Both the previous owner and I spare no expense in maintaining the airplane, but sometimes I can hear only loose change in my pocket. I have a great history with the Skymaster; I was a fledging professional aviator at the peak of its production and did a lot of flying with them. I often think that I let that sentiment play too much in my decision to buy an airframe of this age and with such a lack of parts support. |
