Cracked case and Airmelt crank...

Despite having a low time rear engine with great compression #'s (75/80 is lowest of 6) and no metal in the filter but my AP/IA during annual inspection found a small crack in one of the case halves...
My rear engine is a IO-360-C with a Airmelt crank

I'm looking for advice on buying a new case, crank and having my engine repaired or taking the plunge on a Factory IO-360-CB6B for $40k and a 1700hr TBO. Are there any other options that you would suggest?

Thanks in advance

Skymaster337B is an unknown quantity at this point
Where is the crack in the case? The overhaul manual specifies what cracks are repairable and what’s not repairable. You can always go with a yellow tag case from preferred air parts and add in a VAR crank. It would be much less than $40k.

I was told it’s a lightweight case by Chris Bell from Aviation Enterprises although I’m not 100% sure. How do I tell the difference?

I would call Continental and talk to them about your concerns. They are really easy to talk to, not saying they have all the answers but are very helpful folks

Cracked case and Airmelt crank...

Hello. You can determine light or heavy case by looking at the top of the case where the two halves are bolted together. If the top of the cases have material removed between the bolt holes, making them look like Mickey mouse ears, then it.s a light case but if there is no material removed and is straight/smooth edge then , I believe it's a heavy case. Hope this helps.
