iPod as flight recorder?

An interesting story appears today in www.aero-news.net. It reports of LoPresti's Fury aircraft now having an iPod integrated into the panel. It will record 500 hrs of flight time, including communications with ATC, and also serve as a provider of many hours of music or entertainment, instead of a 1+ hour CD or the monthly cost of satellite radio. All at a bargain consumer-based price which is precisely the opposite of sticker-shock prices for avionics. More intriguing, LoPresti suggests that with "thousands of developers" anxious to write new applications software for iPods, we literally have no idea of the many other possible uses the item may have in general aviation.

Lightbulb

I can foresee that someone like Garmin would look at this, and go "Hmmm....". Maybe one day they will have an audio panel with the name GMA 347i...
