Gear up landing

Last night (Wednesday) on CNN they showed a Skymaster ( looked like a Riley type) making a Wheels up landing somewhere I believe in Indiana. Pilot did a great job on setting it down to what appeared to be minimum damage. It will be interesting to know why the pilot was not able to pump the gear down. Can anyone shed light on this subject.

doors

Hi Bob, No, the gear was not extended. The doors for the legs did not appear to be open but the doors for the wheels were either open or gear door removal mod was done to it. Just was able to see about 10 seconds of the entire event.
