SB / Cessna 337 / actuators

Apparently there is a SB out on the Gear actuators similiar to the 210 and other cessna retractables.

They are requiring inspection for any cracked gear actuators and immediate replacement if found defective.

This applies to pretty well all 337's including P versions. I should have a copy and more detail by next week.

This is all I know so far. BTW Cessna wants about 10k or more for a new actuator.

Hope others may shine some light on this as well.

fyi

Main Landing Gear Actuator SB

I was notified of this by the Cessna Pilots Assn this past week. Its MEB02-7, entitled "Main Landing Gear Actuator Inspection", dated Oct 07, 2002

It applies to '73-'77 337G's (normal and turbo), 78-80 H's and P's, s/n P3370001-P3370365. They didn't forget the Reims build aircraft either, affected are F3370001 thru F33700086, FTB3370001 thru 0062, FP3370001 thru0023.

Its basically check the actuators for cracks, if not cracked, modify. If cracked, open your checkbook, looks like around $10k each. Due at 3,000 hours and repeatative at 500hr intervals.

Cessna considers this to be madatory and notes that failure to comply could result in faliure to the main landing gear actuator. That must be they're attorneys advice.

actuators

Dave

We did overhaul and inspection last year and found nothing.

Any idea what the term "modify" means?

Is there a modification required?

tnx

Smile Actuators....

CPA has the Service Bulletin. Reading thru it certain part

numbered actuators need the mod which reads like the polishing

of machining marks within the actuators. some need no mod but

inspection and some part numbered are not affected at all by

said service bulliten. Had mine out last year,

and of course did not record the part number, however they

looked fine. I may have the ones that need the mod, yet it reads

like I don't have to do anything till 3000 hrs. Guy....old72driver....

re acutators

This is strange as it should be a normal part of the annual to pull the floor covers and do a complete inspection of the actuators and gear assembly.

Why would they call for an inspection now?

will find out.

Cool Ed, I can't seem to find it....

...at there site now. I had originally sent a note to Tom at CPA. Re: MEB02-7, I have had 2 correspondences with him and now I think it might have been an attachment to one of his messages. I printed it out, there 8 pages, 4 for the bulletin and 4 for accomplishment instructions. Will look further in files to see if it is
some where. Guy....old72driver....

Who could I fax them to who could scan and do the attachment thing. I can go to Kinkos and fax them....

If you don't mind waiting until Tuesday, you can fax it to me, 503-590-2867, and I will put it up on the Tech Data page... But perhaps someone else can scan it sooner...

Post SB/SL subscription

Gee, wouldn't it be much simpler, if say, the webmaster or some one of us had a Cessna subscription to the 337 series info for service letters and service bulletins ... and to have this information timely posted as received in a tech-data section so that we're ALL on top of the situation, rather than relying on a helter-skelter method? It would sure seem like the natural thing to do, seeing how this site is supposed to be all about the Skymaster. Has anyone checked to see what Cessna charges for the subscription?

BTW, Bob Cook recently had some info regarding the solid state Oxygen generators having to be replaced, but we never did see anything posted regarding this... what happened there Bob?

SK

Oxy generators

I forwarded the SB in JPG format on the old sight and could not attach it. This one is long gone.

Basically they need to be replaced after 10 yrs. (now life limited). This needed to be complied with within one year ending DEC 2001.

I ripped mine out and replaced with portable system in centre console. Rather large discussion on the board discussing various systems.

Did you replace yours?

These SB from cessna cost money and so does the board. Perhaps we should all "chip in" which could make these things happen.

Doesn't your mechanic find the applicable SB's and sign them off in the log books ? Mine does.

As an FYI - Cessna Technical Support supplied me with a summary SB list applicable to my 77 FT337GP for $50 plus post last week. The list is 12 pages long with 48 items that we will look at more closely. Most are not applicable.

At least when my A&P hits the records, he will know which SB's to look at in his Cessna documentation.

At least TCM puts everything on-line.

Regards - Dave
