FROM A WASH DC AREA FBO/AIRCRAFT CLUB COMMUNICATIONS (Charles) E-MAIL INFO FORWARDED TO ITS RENTERS/MEMBERS.
Sent: Fri, Jan 15, 2010 7:36 pm
Subject: Haiti Airlift
...

All pilots, aircraft owners, etc, anyone interested in participating in an
airlift for Haiti, please see below:

Charles,
As you may remember, I serve as President of a missionary flying organization
called Bahamas Habitat . Our organization launched yesterday flight missions to
Haiti to deliver supplies and evacuate missionaries via outlying airports (not
Port-Au-Prince yet) using volunteer pilots and their aircraft.

Supply depots are set up in Nassau and Fort Lauderdale. Planes are delivering
the supplies to Inagua where we did hurricane relief in the recent past. Inagua
is the Southernmost island in the Bahamas, only a short flight from Haiti. On
Inagua we have food, fuel and lodging for pilot volunteers. We can make quick
flights in and out from there to deliver the supplies and evacuate those trapped
there. Some pilots will be used jus t to move supplies to the staging point
while others will make runs in and out of Haiti.

We need planes, pilots, prayers, supplies, money and help getting the word out.
If you want to help here are the links you need.

Some of us did that for Katrina. It was most rewarding, spiritually.

small aircraft not wanted in Haiti, by US

I was looking at making a trip over that way to try and help. Then I heard from someone connected to the State Department, that small aircraft are not wanted right now for the relief operations. Apparently there are a bunch already mobilized, and it is causing issues with the larger planes getting into and out of the area with real supplies (ie much larger than a small plane can bring) supplies, and people. Not that they don't appreciate the thoughts, but they would much rather you donate money to a reputable agency, and let the bigger planes do the heavy lifting for now.

Just passing along what I was told.

Paul and Mary

Paul Rooy and Mary Lightfine are participating in the Haitian relief efforts, sponsored by Bahamas Habitat (see above).
Good luck to you both.

It may very well be true that operators in other countries need to comply with rules and regulations that are different than those in the US, but that's the way it is with a lot of things. A perfect example is the ELT change. We can't fight everybody's battles for them.

It would seem that operators outside of the US should seek their own clarification or rule changes to be afforded the same protections from these onerous "recommendations" as provided to US operators.

I would imagine that as Cessna continue across all makes and models, they will eventually hit the one model that will cause an uproar casuing a change in how other countries view the implementation of these SIDS. The 337 family is too small to bring about significant change (whihc is mroe than likely why they started here).

I for one can't wait to see the 172 operators reaction
