RMD wingtips for SKymaster?
I have RMD wingtips with HID landing lights in them on my Cessna 172N. They work absolutely awesome. I am now looking around to see if one can get the same for the Skymaster 337G. My searches on internet come up empty. Anyone has any ideas?

This is what I am looking for.
On my 172N I have these RMD wingtips with the most brilliant HID landing lights. I am looking for the same thing, but for the Skymaster. It seems RMD only makes them for Cessna series up to the 210's, and other manufacturers make them for every model BUT the 337.

Well, it's official. Nobody, but nobody, makes wingtips with landing lights built in for 337G's. Looks like I am going to stay with the two lights in the cowl...at least I'll change them to HID's and hook them up to the PulseLite system.
On a side note, this weekend I was on my way back home with my other plane (172N) and had the pulsing HID"s on (alternating between wingtips and nose). This is Class D space and we gotta call 11 miles out inbound - just after I told tower I was 11 miles to the west inbound over HWY 55, they said " we have visual". Now, that's cool!!!

Jakes Is this the HID you are talking about? Wow, them dudes are expensive. I have 4 lights on my ship, 2 taxi and 2 landing, that's over $2,000.00 for a set. Are these approved for Skymaster? How do the HID compare to the Xenon? Same thing?

Yep. And yep. As far as I know HID and Xenon are pretty much the same thing - at least, the same result. A piercing blue-white light that can be seen for miles and miles and miles and...
They use a lot less power than ordinary lamps too, and don't get hot (I think that's part of the long life secret of these lights). They also do not have a coil inside. When I line up for departure, I can pretty much light up as far as 200 yards or more of the runway. Last year the dudes in the tower told me I had to buy them Raybans to put on when they see me coming! In my previous post I said how they had visual of me 11 miles inbound - that was in DAYTIME!!

Maybe Aviation Enterprises
Owen Bell makes winglets for Skymasters and might be interested in changing his STC to incorporate the high intensity lights. Wouln't hurt to ask. His website is www.aviationenterprises.us.
