NYC Corridor Accident

For anyone interested in last week's accident in the NYC East River Class B exclusion, and I think we all have to be to a greater or lesser extent considering the ramifications it will no doubt have, there are some really quite excellent photos posted on the Cessna Pilots Assoc. web site. A gentleman by the name of Harry Livenstein retraced the accident route taking sequential photos of the corridor and of the accident site itself. I will not presume to repost his work here but if you are a CPA member they can be downloaded from Forums/Active Topics/Small Plane Crash on New York Upper East Side/Pgs. 17, 18 & 19. He flew the route at 1500', some 800' higher than the accident flight, with LGA Tower, but you can certainly visualize the conditions if you have never flown this yourself. The whole affair is a sad day for aviation with the corridor already being closed down with a TFR and who knows what other irrational consequences to follow. Another neat website for accident reconstruction, linked to in the CPA thread, is www4.passur.com/lga.html. It is a plot of radar returns for traffic being worked or observed by LaGuardia tower. If you set the date to 10/11/06 and the time to 14:37 you can pick up the flight just starting up the East River from Lady Liberty. It will cross Govenour's Island and then drop out at 14:42.
