Replacement Fuel Flow Gauge

Does anyone have suggestions for a good twin digital tach to replace a somewhat inaccurate original?

Also, is there a digital fuel flow instrument that can replace the original. I have looked at the FS-450 and have talked with the manufacturer. They don't advertise it as a replacement... only as an add-on.

Jim, not sure about the tach. I saw one 337 with two tach indictors of the light-diode type (brand escapes me.) But the original tachs were still in the plane to make it legal.

Shadin does have an STCd unit to replace the fuel flow meter. Last time I checked it's about $3,000 plus installation. It is also a fuel totallizer and quantity instrument. Nice! Try shadin.com or look in T-A-P.

Let us know what you work out especially if you do something about the tachs.

tach

The P337 Rocket I fly has a single digital tach that's very accurate. It's in addition to the standard tach. It has a front/rear switch. I'll get a brand next time I'm at the airport.....

My P-337 is equipped from Riley with the Shadin Fuel Flow Computer - It works great! I would also suggest the Gemini 1200 Temp/EGT/TIT monitor - the combined package provides a ton of information.

digital tach

N5KX has a Shadin fuel flow as well, and individual digital engine gauges. But it also has a digital tach, brand unknown until I go to the airport. When the props are synched, the front and rear RPM's are exactly the same on the digital tach, even though the standard tach shows them a couple hundred RPM's apart. I have attached a picture, but the digital tach is behind the right yoke and not visible.....

That's a nice looking panel. Unfortunately I am out of real estate on the panel. I need to eliminate the original fuel flows and tachs in order to put in the digital gauges.

I'm looking specifically for Replacements rather than additional gauges.

There are several of them which are probably better than original equipment. The issue is gettig rid of the original ones.

Fuel flow

Jim, I have a Shadin and it is the only flow gauge in my plane. Nice large digital numbers side by side. I had to replace the encoded twice but price is reasobable and quick to change out. The unit I have gives a lot of information. Total gallons used flow to each engine, time remaining of fuel on board etc.

I flew a skymaster with the new tacks in the original holes and the factory ones mounted under the dash on the copilots side up agianst the side wall on an angle so you could see them from the pilots seat.

EI Fuel flow gauges are STC'd as replacements (FP-5).

http://www.buy-ei.com/FP-5%20Fuel%20Flow%20Price.htm

With a little negociation you can get these units for under $600.00

Nice people and never seen or heard of a problem with their products.

Richard, I contacted EI recently about an STC allowing replacement of the original fuel flow meter. They do not have an STC yet. They hope it will be in their next list of STCs. Field approval is required absent an STC and I don't know if this will work as far as replacing the OE meter. Depends on the local FSDO guy. If you'd like more information, give me your email address and I'll forward EIs email to me regarding this subject.

That would be nice. I just recently contacted them, and they claimed the model with the GPS interface was newly STC'd. On the link I included on my previous post, you will see a flashing "now STC'd primary instrument replacement". When was the last time you talked with them?

Richard, I take it all back. I contacted them again today and the fellow who first responded to me (Monday) was out and a new person responded contradicting the the original answer. It appears that all 337s are covered in the STC for replacement of the original OE instrument. Assuming he's right, this is good news. This system is less expensive than the Shadin and gives a lot more information and can be combined with other EI functions. I am going to continue to followup on this setup as I'd like to replace my OE dual instrument with a fuel flow totalizer setup.

I've got a quote from them in the last week of December, listing RPM, MP, OIL, FF, all replacements for the 337 instruments. STC'd.... Nice
