Battery Charger

Does anyone know a supplier for a good aircraft battery charger? I like Sears but of course they only have 12v chargers. It's hard to find a 24v charger. Any recommendations?

These are really nice units. Will do a maintainer mode too.

I like the Battery Minder.
Do not get a Battery Tender - it will smoke your battery.

What's the difference between a "Minder" and a "Tender"?

I use these to maintain my batteries. Once you have the right tools it can save you a lot of money in the long run. Plus if you fly some IFR you will know that your battery does in fact have the required capacity. The Gill 242's seem to like a high constant current in initial charge. Up to 35v and 8 amps. For just a little while. Lots of outgassing [Hydrogen], please no sparks are ciggys when doing this. This is explained in the MX section on the Gill site. The Freas No.1 is my first tool of choice. I wonder who designed the C337 Battery box? Quite a durable work of art.

1.http://www.chiefaircraft.com/airsec/...ryService.html $24.50

2.http://gillbatteries.com/maintenance.aspx FREE

3. http://www.altestore.com/store/Charg...CHARGER/p1055/ $209.96

The charger can be used as a apu with a max load of 15 amps.

4. http://www.powerwerx.com/tools-meter...3-cba-iii.html -$149.00

5. http://www.powerwerx.com/tools-meter...eter-m300.html
$9.99 Buy 3 at that price and keep one in car, plane and workbench.

The Battery load test is required. This Load tester unit is worth the money. Ability to overlay respective graphs for charting battery. Works on any battery.

Does anyone know if you can configure your outside APU connection so that it charges the battery. I currently have to remove the top of my battery box to charge it, if I'm not using the alternators.

You can wire your Cigar plug directly to the battery with appropriate safeguards and charge thru there. Please don't flame me, there is appropriate safeguards which go with this mod. I just do not wish to include for various reasons. Then change your Battery Minder/Tender ends to Cigar Male. PM me for the details. Or piggyback to the Cessna GPU socket with safeguards. Either way the cable ends on the battery charger will be changed. You can fabricate a set of adapter cables pretty easily for the charger. The above mods can be accomplished also with a battery temp monitor and other safeguards pretty cheap. Most parts available at RatShack.

Please no Flame from the safety police. I deal with that 24/7. The fellow asked the question and I'm just answering him with a solution.
