Need recommendations for cover
I just found out last night the the hanger I was sub-letting is going to be taken back. The fellow that I bought my skymaster from is buying a 206 and there goes the hanger.
So it looks likes for now I will be outside. I want to purchase a cover and need some ideas of where to get one and which you all have had good luck using. I should tell you that I live in the Washington DC area, and in winter this year it has gotten down to 5 above. I have the Tanis preheating system, I really just want to protect the plane as best I can while I find another hanger. Thanks |
Aircraft Covers
Try Bruce's Covers - www.aircraftcovers.com - they have a good reputation. Be sure to get a cover that goes over the avionics access panels in front of the windshield. This is one main source of leaks especially when snow melts slowly.

Parking Outside

If you do park outside in the winter, make sure you have some "BOOM LEGS" in case the snow gets to heavy on the tail.

Hey Fred,
Do you have a closeup picture of how those things are attached to the boom? I notice they hang loose until the snow gets too heavy (kindof like their owner, I guess ;-). Are they PVC pipe, or...? I know I have read a discussion of this somewhere, but I have never seen good pictures. Thanks, Kevin |
Boom Leg

Will this do. Sch 40 1" PVC is what it is made of. If you need more help let me know.

Thanks Fred. It looks like the tail will rest on the structure immediately around the tiedown, rather than the tiedown ring itself, because the pipe will touch first. Am I correct, or confused? I take it this area is strong enough to take the load? (Hope the question makes sense.) Very good picture, thanks!

Legs
No Kevin they do actualley set on the rings, just make sure you don't make the slot in the leg to deep, if you do , just trim a little more off the top. If you think I need to take another picture I will.
I could make a few sets of legs to bring to the meeting in OKC if you think anyone would be interested. Fred |
Fred,
I think bringing along at least one set would be of interest to anybody who has to tie their airplane out in the snow, even when on a trip. I would like to see them anyway :-). I wanted the picture because folks keep talking abou these. With your permission, I would like to post these pictures elsewhere on the web page... Kevin |
Legs
Kevin
You can post the pictures any where you want to, I was afraid they would take up to much disk space. Thanks Fred :) |
